BIRDS Health and Hygiene Program
Bangalore city has the majority population of different cultures, religions and linguistic people in India. Also, Bangalore has vast organizations of medical institutions and speciality health care establishments. But, the economically weaker communities had difficulties as they couldn’t access and get the high-cost medical services easily. So, we have planned to focus on the most vulnerable people in rural area and slums. And helped them to get excellent medical supports quickly and easily with financial supports. Then, we have recognized the health conditions of their children and promote their growth with supplementary nourishments. Thus, BIRDS has planned to campaign health and hygiene awareness programs for the health-conscious. Then, we organized the health camps to know that people’s health statuses and identified their health issues and diseases. Finally, we have found the needy through the medical camps and offered them medical supports for the treatments and cured them of illness and disabilities.
Goal
To improve health status of communities through health education, environmental cleanliness, and increasing access to primary healthcare centres of women and children.
Objectives
- To enable the needy communities to have improved access to health care facilities.
- To ensure that communities, especially women, access pre-natal and post-natal care.
- To ensure that the pregnant and lactating mothers and children access proper nutrition.
- To enable the communities to become sensitive to health and hygiene and preventive measures.
OUR OUTREACHES
Health care activities in urban and rural areas include free health camps and awareness programs. Health and hygienic awareness program for the women and children. Special health camp for the construction and domestic workers. Sanitation programs, formulation of health committees in the panchayats.
Awareness Programs
BIRDS has collaborated with St. John’s and Koshys medical institutions for health and hygiene awareness program in rural and slum areas along with that we have taken the baseline survey. We have organized certain events dedicated only towards spreading awareness regarding daily healthy routine which was conveyed in an easily understandable way with the use of appropriate medication. Ranging from basic first aid to the treatment of complex ailments like TT and Tuberculosis. Such diseases can be dealt with by giving basic care and protection to oneself. Medication like Vitamin supplements are highly recommended to enhancement one’s immunity in prior.
Health Camps
BIRDS has collaborated with St. John’s and Koshys medical institutions, NGOs and volunteers for health and hygiene program. This aim towards the betterment of the villages and slums. The health camps focus on basic health determining parameters like full body test, blood pressure, diabetes, height & weight. In medical camps, we have a professional medical practitioner for medical examinations, health consultations and provide some medicines to the people. Also, we have enquired about their ailments in order to attend to their needs and requirements.
