Domestic Workers Union

BIRDS started the Domestic Workers Union in the year 2017 with 125 members which had gone through a range of activities including financial management. Presently the Union covers about 20 different areas across Bangalore city having about 258 women as its members.

Union meetings were conducted in each area by the animators who provided a complete structure of Union, its activities, the benefits as a union member and information of the domestic workers union smart card. The union elects its President, Vice president, and secretary for transparency and better management.

BIRDS along with Domestic Workers Union attended the program on National Platform for Domestic Workers, Karnataka, held at the Indian Social Institute (ISI), Bangalore.

Around 300 members of several unions in Bangalore had attended the meeting. The core motive of organizing this program was to provide a common platform for the domestic workers to clarify their doubts and make them aware of the various schemes and provisionsoffered by the State as well as the Central Government for their wellbeing.
