Evening Tuition Centre for dropout students and children from disadvantaged backgrounds was part of the children’s development programme. Every day, there are two hours of class time. Women tutors who are educated and accessible in the area are hired on a volunteer basis and given a small stipend. Each tutoring facility received school materials that they distribute to students. A total of 122 children aged between 6 and 14 have benefited from this program in each of the 5 rural sites.

Children Parliament
On 2003 Children parliament established in India. Forming children’s parliaments at schools is the best way to bring-up changes among the children and it helps children learn about democracy, parliamentary processes, and their rights, and gives them a chance to practice these concepts. They can also help children develop leadership skills, confidence, and team spirit it gives a chance to speak for the children
Children’s Parliament process includes various stages as listed below:
- 1) Announcement of Election Schedule
- 2) Issue of Notification
- 3) Filing of Nominations by the Candidates
- 4) Election Campaigns by the Candidates
- 5) Polling of Votes
- 6) Counting of Votes, and Constitution of House.
- 7) Oath of Candidates
The BIRDS Children’s Development Program has observed through time that children themselves mostly get the chance to express their ideas, thoughts, ambitions, likes, dislikes, and opinions on the matters they think to be essential to their personal development. The growth of children’s health, education, and capacity for independent decision-making have been affected by the lack of communication between adults and children as well as a lack of acceptance of children in the decision-making process. The concept of the Children’s Parliaments was developed by the children’s development program to reduce this lack of participation. Children from a certain village, community and school called the Children’s Parliament to participate in activities, study, and communicate their interests and opinions to the school’s decision-makers. This ensures that children, who continue to be the focus of all our programs, have an involvement in decisions that directly impact them.
- Equipping children with the basic concepts of the Children’s Parliament
- Providing life skill education
- Equipping children with the knowledge to maintain the sustainability of the Children’s Parliament
- Teaching children about child rights
- Undertaking activities that focus on the children’s health and education
- Teaching children the art of negotiation and group decision making
Some fundamental requirements are met, they could possibly provide significant opportunities for children participation. They are primarily an effective civic education tool for educating young people about parliamentary functioning.
